These are strange times and it makes you think about things that might pass you by in a normal day.

I’ve been watching TV. Nothing earth shattering there. But the giraffe has been on. I’ve known that the long neck of the giraffe can be problematic. The blood pressure required to supply the brain should be intense. The pressure should explode the neck but obviously that doesn’t happen. It’s to do with the arrangement of blood vessels and values.
The dilemma in question today was why doesn’t the giraffe pass out when it drinks. I’d not thought about it before. Try bending over forwards and drinking, it just doesn’t work.
For a giraffe the process of putting the head down below the heart, its blood pressure should be an issue. I’ve tried to hold my ankles for a couple of minutes. The veins in my temples started to throb, I’m overweight so I wasn’t comfortable breathing and after while the room started to spin. I stood up and the room started to spin in the other direction and I caught a view of myself in the mirror and I was doing a pretty good impression of a beetroot.
In the giraffe the arrangement of veins and blood vessels in the neck control and regulate the blood pressure. The giraffe uses its lips to start to suck up water and the throat acts like a straw to suck the water into the stomach. That’s the way it was explained on the TV anyway. There’s probably a more scientific explanation but that’s sort of in the right area.
When I was young I had a girl friend that lived a few miles away. I realise if you’ve met me having a girl friend might be a further surprise. We used to spend our weekends traveling to each other’s homes and spending time together. I used to leave it as late as possible to get back so I could spend more time with her. When I got back it was inevitability night. This was when cars were made of thick lumps of steel. Most of us could only afford older cars and the down side was that they rusted heavily quite quickly. They weighed a ton but you could quite safely sit on the bonnet without leaving a body shaped dent in the metalwork.
I would often on a clear night sit on the bonnet, lean against the windscreen and stare at the sky. It amazed me that when you looked at the black bits intensely you would more speckles of light. I am still in awe of the scale of space.
There are other extraordinary features in the world of nature but the more I look the more wonderful features I find. The stars and things like the design in the giraffe convince me that we are the product of a creator.
The bible tells us at Pslams 19: 1 “The heavens are declaring the glory of God. The skies above proclaim the work of his hands.”
It also says at Romans 1: 20 “For his invisible qualities are clearly seen from the worlds creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made, even his eternal power and Godship, so that they are inexcusable.”
That’s my view any way.
Thankful for Gods Creation
This song has a country feel about it. I like the second verse.
So many colours now painted in the sky,
What a beautiful canvas you’ve laid before my eyes!
The sound of the river running into the night,
The stars are dancing in the moon’s spotlight
Here’s the link to have a listen.
Stay safe
