These are strange times but there are some things that I do find shocking. Like the knowledge that something I believed to be true, and had expressed to others was definitely wrong. I think I stated fact with such conviction that either people started to doubt their own knowledge in the fact, they just couldn’t bring themselves to contradict me, or they’re just happy for me to demonstrate how thick I am.
My latest subject of ignorance is the band who had success with the rock anthem Ace of spades. I was convinced it was Black Sabbath, when it is in fact Motorhead. Either way I hate that tune. It’s not the singer, the band, the lyrics, in fact I don’t know what it is but I really don’t like it. That is rare like most music. Except possibly opera, that’s definitely another blog.
There’s a story of Lemmy going to get his blood cleaned and the hospital refused to do it because his blood was TOO toxic and he was just carrying on day to day with life is interesting. Either he was made of cast iron (which is not beyond the realms of consideration) or he felt so bad all the time it was just normal to feel like something nasty you stepped in. This would be why he’s known as a rock and roll legend. The contrast to this song is an acoustic version of “I ain’t no nice guy after all”. It’s everything I love from a rock ballad. That might be for another blog.
AND! I don’t know what I’ve done to the Karma in the world but! I’ve said in an earlier blog I’m always plugged into music. When I’ve cleared my phone and plugged it into my car and switch to media it always plays Ace of spades. The next question is if you hate it so much why is it on your phone?
Fairly soon after picking up the ukulele I fell over a ukulele album made by Joe Brown (of Joe Brown and the Bruvvers). So I bought the album by download. It has some great and unexpected ukulele versions of Pinball wizard, Mr Blue Sky, I like you, and a compulsory version of When I’m Cleaning Windows. Anyway, he’s done a version of Ace of spades. Without selecting a song first the automatic choice is the first song in the song list. Not many songs are alphabetically ordered before Ace. So every time I switch to media I get a blast of Ace of spades. Next question! Why not delete it? Because it does not delete singularly I would have to loose the whole album. I like the other tracks too much for that.
Ace of Spades
Released in 1980 on 7” vinyl a 12” was available in limited edition.
My sister I suspect loves this. I’ll leave her to enjoy it. Our tastes meet but diverge quite often. In many things.
Stay safe.
